While it may seem I’m making little progress (at least as far as updating my blog), I’ve been making decent headway on a variety of projects. It just takes a lot of time to plan things out, order supplies, take pictures and then write a post.
Overall Scope & Workspace
As we’re now nearly at the end of May, my original plans to be on the road by March have obviously changed significantly. The guys I’m renting garage space from have pushed their plans back and have generously invited me to continue using the garage. This was a welcome reprieve back in March when I was in crunch mode to get even the minimal amount of conversion work done in time. However, with all the extra time I have greatly expanded the scope of work. At present I’m targeting mid to end of June to be done with pretty much all the major renovations.
Bunk
- Bunk wall is insulated and just waiting for a final few wiring runs before I close it up.
- The shiplap I will be using for my bunk wall has been painted and is ready to be cut and fitted.
- My bed platform is going to be convertible between a twin XL size mattress and a couch (in theory). The twin XL is a comfortable width while providing me a much needed 80″ length. In couch mode it will be 25″ deep and when pulled out into bed mode 38″. I’m also going to re-use the bench seat piano hinges to allow the bed to lift up and get access to the copious amounts of storage underneath.
- The bed/couch frame is made out of 3/4 birch plywood and will be reinforced with 1″ square steel tube.

Kick arse.
