Pembroke Pines, FL Day 1

Posted on November 9, 2021February 1, 2022 by Michael Kurt

Flew GR > Detroit > Fort Lauderdale. Met with contact at city who took me over to the surplus yard where the truck was stored. Had been studying photos of this thing for months, but first impression was just how big it was. Other than cobwebs, interior was fairly clean. Exterior had a years worth of grime on it from sitting outside, unwashed except for rain.

  1. Jumpstarted; started after 10 second crank. Engine ran, built air, pumped coolant. Died as soon as NOCO was disconnected.
  2. Jumpstarted again; let it run with NOCO connected for 1 hour+.
  3. Batteries were charging so alternator appears good.
  4. Air built to 120, but then dropped to 50-60 psi.
  5. MIL engine light + Engine Warn Light after a few minutes.
  6. ABS light
  7. ((Brake)) light
  8. Stop engine light w/ beeping
  9. Checked oil after run, dead on where it should be
  10. Low coolant warning; coolant level was very low and truck was parked on an incline which was exacerbated by rear suspension kneel.
  11. During run water temp never budged passed 175. Fan speed increased and decreased on demand as engine reached operating temp.
  12. Initially battery amps were 6, but built to 66.
  13. Next start immediately after shutdown was fine w/o jump.
  14. After shutdown could hear air leak from under truck near air reservoir.
  15. Truck lost all air overnight, rear suspension and air ride seats deflated.
  16. Transmission: no error codes; ol,–,EH
  17. No water in air reservoir when drain pulled.
