Attempted to remove EGR valve, but still couldn’t get it to budge. Will require a specialized removal tool, which I promptly ordered on eBay.
Checked oil before starting: It was just a hair past ADD, which is about 2 quarts low. Picked up 2 quarts of 15W40 to keep on hand.
Checked coolant reservoir: Was well below cold max line. Dark residue pooled in top of reservoir, which I’m guessing is oil mixed with coolant. Looked like there was a dark layer lower down in the tank. Added ~1 quart of red coolant picked up at Advanced Auto.
Suspect O-rings/gasket in oil cooler.
Looked under engine. Dab of oil on coolant return line on the bottom of the oil cooler.
Truck needed to be jumped to start.
Noticed alarm comes on immediately along with check engine light. Engine Warn light and Stop light come on a few minutes later. Pablo stated the alarm was related to the stop light, but if that was the case, the alarm shouldn’t come on until the Stop lamp comes on.
Left Pembroke Pines at around 12:40 and drove ~320 miles to St Augustine, 30 miles south of Jacksonville. Outdoor temp was 80-84 most of the afternoon. On the expressway, coolant temp rose to nearly 200 if speed exceeded 70MPH. Several traffic slowdowns in Fort Lauderdale and further north.
Engine may have bucked a few times if I pressed hard on the gas to go from 60-70. Not 100% sure it wasn’t just road conditions.
Later on after stopping for gas and again at a rest stop, suspension shifted hard when accelerating from a stop. I think it was 2nd-3rd or 3rd-4th gear.
Low beam headlights not working. Worked on high beams. Later discovered this was by design to accommodate the headlight wigwag feature. High beams are normal headlights.
Ambient temp cooled as the sun went down dropping from 80 to 73. Coolant temp dropped to ~180-185.
Idled the engine for a few minutes after getting to the hotel.
Checked oil an hour later and it doesn’t appear to have lost any more.
